PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH SHOOFLY PIEDry Mixture1-1/2 cups of flour1 cup of brown sugar1/4 cup of shorteningLiquid Mixture3/4 cup of real molasses (not Karo)3/4 cup of hot water3/4 tsp. of baking soda1/4 tsp. each of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves (vary to taste)Blend the two mixtures in separate containers.Into a 9" or 10" pie tin, alternate layers of the dry and liquid ingredients. Start and finish with the dry mixture.Bake 15 minutes at 450°, then 20 minutes at 350°.The result is delicious "wet bottom" pie (cake). During the baking process the molasses miraculously settles to the bottom of the pie.

Looks great. I'll have to try it - for a potluck at church or something. Duane doesn't care for sweets, & i try not to eat too many!
